What is organic linen and how is it made?
Organic linen is made from the outer fibres of flax grown using natural farming methods without synthetic pesticides, fertilisers or harmful chemicals. Once ready to harvest the plant is pulled, not cut, and left laid down in the field for to naturally break down the woody stems. This process is called retting. Once gathered into bails it is scutched, a mechanical process that separates the woody inner stems of the plant from out outer fibres that are then spun into yarn and woven into fabric. Certified production ensures environmental and ethical standards are maintained throughout the process.
